James had an older brother, Richard Tobin 1837-1840 who drowned in the creek by the house at age 3. James' dad, Patt, had previously married Catherine Larkin 1800-1833 who died in childbirth but the baby, Mary Tobin Kelly, 1833-1900 lived and married John Kelly 1835-1917. James was baptized in the new Catholic Church in 1840 since the English had taken over the previous Catholic Church (that stand abandoned on main street in Callan). His baptism, wedding and all 8 children's baptisms are listed in the parish records (and on Ancestry.com). James and his older sister, Mary, grew up in Ahenure; James married Mary Cummins 1838-1920 on January 16 1863 in Callan, County Kilkenny, with witnesses Michael Dawson and Bridget Cummins and they lived in Ahenure. James and Mary had 11 children, 8 born in Callan and 3 in Burlington Junction, Missouri. James' dad, Patt Tobin, died July 20, 1873 and in March of 1880 the family left Ireland on the ship, The City of Berlin, and went to Mary's brother, Patrick Cummins, east of Burlington Junction, MO. James' mom, Hanora, moved in with her step daughter, Mary Tobin Kelly, at #4 lower Bridge St beside the Kings River that flowed through Callan. Patt Tobin had 2 parcels of land in Ahenure, #3 & #6, beside Kilbride cemetery. James farmed that land and continued farming in America. When James and Mary arrived in Rosebury (east of Burlington Jct), they walked to her brother's home Pat and Annie Cummins and Pat had obtained land across the road for them. Shortly after landing a tornado took their home and they ended up in a home a mile north where later their grandson, Frank Tobin, would live. The 8 kids were: Patrick Joseph Tobin 1864-1924, Thomas Joseph Tobin 1866-1941, Annie Honora Tobin Roney 1868-1961, Jo Bridget Tobin Boyle 1870-1954, Richar Tobin 1872-1943, Mary "Mollie" Tobin 1874-1951, Nelle Ellen Cummin Tobin 1876-1957, Elizabeth Lizzie" Tobin Messbarger 1878-1939. Then in America Jack, John Edward Tobin 1880-1962 was born in December having been conceived on the ship in March. Finally, Margaret "Sr. Inez, OSF" Tobin 1883-1962 and Bertha Agnes Tobin Lyons 1885-1973. James died April , 1917 of nephritis age 76 and is buried with large headstone in the front of St. Patrick's cemetery, Maryville, MO. His wife, Mary, died March 20, 1920 and is buried beside him and with lots of Tobin graves around them.
