Burial in the Brooklyn (IOOF) Memorial Cemetry, Brooklyn, Iowa. James Henry was the son of George and Isabelle Henry. He was born in Ballywalter, County Down, Ireland. Mr Henry was married to Elisabeth Jane Leslie on March 14, 1878 in Poweshiek County, Iowa. To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls; James, Wm Georg, Elisabeth, John, Anna, Mary, Margaret, Joseph and Mary. All of the children survive except one daughter, Mary Isabella. Mr and Mrs Henry reared their family on a farm six miles south of Brooklyn in the community known as Irish Ridge. They were very kind and hospitable and held a large place in the thoughts and interests of the entire community. By industry and frugality they came to be in very comfortable circumstnces. They were just at the point where they could enjoy the fruits of their labors and seemingly were ready to settle down to a quiet old age when the home was saddened by the death of Elisa on June 16, 1907. James continued to live on the home place until a year ago. Last summer Mr Henry took a trip to his old home in Ireland. There he was married to Miss Jane McKibbin on September 15, 1909. They came to Poweshiek county, Iowa shortly afterward and were expecting to move on the old home place this month. Mr Henry had apparently been the best of health until he was taken down with pneumonia. The sickness lasted for nearly two weeks, none suspecting that it was so serious as it proved. He seemed on the way to recovery when suddenly there was a change for the worse. Everything that kindness and medical skill could do was of no avail. His death came as a shock to the community. Mr Henry was a man of frank manner, strict honesty and unflinching loyalty. He held various offices of public trust in the community and performed the duties faithfully. He united with the Fairview United Presbyterian church about thirty years ago and was a constant active member until the time of his death. For about twenty years he had been a ruling elder. He will be greatly missed in the church and in the community.
