Description	:	James Wilson Hold was born in Ross County, Ohio, July 13, 1846 and died at Volga City, Iowa, April 21, 1909. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Piatt County, Illinois. At the age of sixteen years he answered the call for volunteers, and joined the 73rd Illinois regiment of infantry, known as the Preacher's regiment. He took part in sixteen hard fought battles and was wounded at Chicamauga, from which he never fully recovered. Read More	James Wilson Hold was born in Ross County, Ohio, July 13, 1846 and died at Volga City, Iowa, April 21, 1909. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Piatt County, Illinois. At the age of sixteen years he answered the call for volunteers, and joined the 73rd Illinois regiment of infantry, known as the Preacher's regiment. He took part in sixteen hard fought battles and was wounded at Chicamauga, from which he never fully recovered. He served his country over three years, and was honorably mustered out at the close of the war. He engaged in the Milling business at Springfield, IL, and in 1868 left for Iowa, and located in Greene County. He moved to Volga City in 1900 where he resided until his death. He was united in marriage with Rosetta Amelia Staring of Jefferson, Iowa, on December 21, 1876. To them were born five children: Georgie E., wife of the late W H Jones; Elsie B, wife of A C Fobes; Harry E, Hazel L and Leslie D at home, who with his mother and one sister, Mrs. S T Hutchison of Lake City, are left to mourn a kind and indulgent husband, father and brother, one who was ever ready to assist those in need. He united with the Presbyterian Church at Springfield, Ohio, when a young man and lived a consistent Christian life until his death. His death will be mourned by a great many old friends in and about Jefferson.
