Scott was born... Read More	The Allerton News Death of J. W. Scott After an illness lasting for several years at midnight Monday night J. W. Scott breathed his last at his home in Allerton. The end came peacefully and without a struggle, losing consciousness shortly after noon. His death was due to an enlargement and hardening of the spleen. Funeral services were held at the U. P. church yesterday after noon and were conducted by Rev. J. A. Shannon, pastor, assisted by Rev. W. H. Larrick, pastor of the M. E. church. Burial was in the Allerton cemetery. James W. Scott was born in Belmont County, Ohio, March 1, 1857. Came to Iowa when eight years old and has resided here ever since. Died May 29, 1905, aged 48 years, 2 months, 28 days. He leaves an aged father, I. M. Scott, one sister, Mrs. John Brock of Allerton, and one brother, J. P. Scott of Lawson, Mo., who came in Tuesday and was present at the funeral. At the time of his death Mr. Scott held the position of town clerk the duties of which he was compelled to relinquish several months ago. The ailment of which he died has been a slow growth and despite the best efforts of medical skill it baffled all treatments. About a year ago he went to the osteopathic hospital at Kirksville, Mo., and took treatment for several months and returned apparently some benefited. But the improvement was only apparent. During the winter he grew gradually worse and for the last several months he was confined to the house and his bed. During this time he was cared for by members of the family and the lodge of Odd Fellows of which he was a member. The lodge provided for watches and nurses during the night a part of the time for two to sit up with him and attend to his wants. A post mortem operation was performed by Drs. W. L Bullis, D. E. Williams and B. S. Everett and the spleen taken out and examined. It was found to weigh over four pounds and to be quite hard.
