Winston, prominent farmer of Nelson, Va., died at his home at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday at the age of 75 years. Funeral rites were conducted at Nelson Baptist Church at 3:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. E, R. Harris, assisted by Rev. C. E. Newman, both of Virgilina, Va. Internment followed in the church cemetery with the Masonic order in charge. Mr. Winston was a member of one of the section's most prominent families and for many years he had been an outstanding farmer and community leader. A member of the Nelson Baptist church over a long period, he had served the church as Superintendent of the Sunday School and was deacon for many years. Mr. Winston was a son of the late Bridges and Mary Winston and has resided all his life in the community where the end came. He owned and operated a large farm in Granville County, adjacent to the Virginia line. Among his friends and neighbors, "Mr. Jim" was one to whom they looked up to at all times. Surviving Mr. Winston are his widow, Mrs. Hassie Nelson Winston, one son, Howell W. Winston, two daughters, Mrs. A. H. Clark, all of Nelson, Va. and Miss Ernestine Winston, in service at Fort Belvoir Va. He also leaves one brother D. T. Winston, of this county. The pallbearers were Dr. W. N. Thomas, Rux D. Currin,Tom Poole, Charlie Winston, M. W, Clement and Francis Winston.
