Horton which occurred at his home on Cove Creek Tuesday night after a few days illness with pneumonia, Watauga loses one of her best citizens. He was born and reared in this county and had attained the age of 79 years. He was ever been broad in his views and progressive in all the things that looked to the betterment of his beloved county. Mr. Horton was a soldier in the Confederate army and been for many years chairman of the Pension Board of the coutny and was still holding this position at the time of his death. He was one of the charter members of the Snow Lodge A. F. & A. M., having dimited from Watauga Lodge 273, when Snow Lodge was constituted. He was an authority on Masonry, having been considered one of the brightest and best posted Masons in the county. He was District Grand Master for a number of years just prior to his death. Mrs. Horton and six children survive. Interment was made yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock, the Masonic fraternity having charge of the funeral. Snow and Watauga Lodge participating.
