Description	:	J. W. Thurman former resident of the Belleville community passed away Saturday morning in the Providence hospital in Seattle. Born March 16, 1857 in Miller County, Missouri. He is the son of John Blythe Thurman and Jane Allee Thurman (and number ten of their eleven children). In 1878 at Ellis, Vernon, Missouri James Washington Thurman was united in marriage with Miss Josephine Wicks and to this union six children were born, Albert Clyde, John Blythe, Edith, Ralph Ernst, Clara and Ruth. He is the son of John Blythe Thurman and Jane Allee Thurman (and number ten of their eleven children). In 1878 at Ellis, Vernon, Missouri James Washington Thurman was united in marriage with Miss Josephine Wicks and to this union six children were born, Albert Clyde, John Blythe, Edith, Ralph Ernst, Clara and Ruth. In 1903 the Thurman family came to Burlington from Cedarville, Dade, Missouri to reside, taking up their home in the Belleville district. Here Mr. Thurman was active in community affairs and served on the school board for some years. He was a member of the Methodist church and active in its organizations while living here. A daughter, Clara Thurman Doran, died in 1916 and son Ralph in 1918. Mrs. Thurman passed away in 1920. For some years past Mr. Thurman has spent the major part of his time in Seattle at the home of his daughter Ruth, returning to the home place in the summer where he was greatly interested in his victory garden. Surviving are two sons, John Thurman, Route 1, Bow and Clyde Thurman of Burlington; two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Vercoe (Edith) of Manson and Mr. E. E. Kobelt (Ruth) of Seattle and one sister, Mrs. R. J. Tarrant (Mary) of Springfield, Mo; also 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Walter R. Hulbush Funeral Home with Rev. J. P. Johnson of the Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Herbert Weber sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. F .E. Tucker. Honorary pallbears were O. Emil Wersen, James Doran, Frank Mowrer, Fritz Johnson, Nelson Tennison and Charlie Pierson; active pallbears were Merton McKee, Harold Pierson, James Wallace, Dayton Mowrer, Carl Schroeder and James Ovenell. Burial took place in the Burlington cemetery in the family plot beside his wife. In Missouri he was a farmer, rancher and postmaster.
