Read More	The Americus Greeting, Americus, Kansas Thursday, November 11, 1909, page 4 James Wesley Floyd was born at Beaufort, Washington county, N C, on October 19, 1831, and died at his home in Americus on Wednesday morning, Nov 10th, 1909, at 3 am. He was 78 years, and 21 days old at the time of his death. Several months ago he was stricken with paralysis and since that time he has been steadily on the decline, and for the last ten days or more he had experienced considerable trouble with his heart, and it was to heart failure that his death was due. Mr Floyd was married to Miss Lucinda Terril, Sept 28, 1854, and to this union seven children were born, of whom there are at present living, Mrs Elizabeth McCaw, John W Floyd, Geo W Floyd, and James Floyd, all of whom were present at the time of his death. In an early day Mr Floyd moved with his parents to Jasper county, Mo, where he grew to manhood. He moved with his wife and family to Americus in 1861, having spent about seven years of his married life in Missouri. He was a member of the M E church of this place, and was a member of Co D of the Kansas state militia, and served in the Price raid, and in the Indian raids which infested the state in an early day. He was also a beneficiary of the A O U W at the time of his death. Mr Floyd had made Americus his abiding place for the last 48 years and was a respected citizen, and had a wide acquaintance over the county. His wife and five grandchildren are left among the near relatives, besides others more distantly connected, in various states, who will mourn his loss. The funeral services will be held today (Thursday) from the residence at 10 am, and the remains interred in the Americus cemetery.
