Description	:	James William Cato Last Wednesday J. W. Cato passed away, after several months of illness, at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. He was born February 8, 1917, the son of Aaron and Ola Walker Cato. His life, except for years of service in the Navy, was spent in Edgefield County. He was an employee of Clearwater Finishing Plant as a carpenter until last January when he became ill of a malignancy. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Cato passed away, after several months of illness, at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta. He was born February 8, 1917, the son of Aaron and Ola Walker Cato. His life, except for years of service in the Navy, was spent in Edgefield County. He was an employee of Clearwater Finishing Plant as a carpenter until last January when he became ill of a malignancy. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, with the pastor, the Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. Nephews served as pall bearers. Funeral services were conducted in the Hollingsworth Funeral Home. J.W. met Freda Davis, a native of New Mexico while serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1941 in New York when he returned there from Honolula. He served on the USS Memphis and later on the USS Solace. The latter had been reconditioned after serving as a hospital ship during World War I. He was a veteran of World War II. At the close of the war he came home and was content to stay. Besides his wife he was survived by a daughter, Mrs. Starling Powell of Augusta; three sons, Terry Cato, North Augusta, Dariel Cato, Belvedere, and Randy Cato, Aiken.
