Jimmie who lived in Smithsburg, Maryland his entire life will forever be remembered as the unofficial mayor/protector of “Bulltail.” Why unofficial? Jimmie who lived in Smithsburg, Maryland his entire life will forever be remembered as the unofficial mayor/protector of “Bulltail.” Why unofficial? Bulltail does not actually exist on the map; but, everyone who lives in or near Bulltail knows where it is. Jimmie was born in his family home in Bulltail on May 31, 1945. Jimmie was the son of the late James Kline and Edna (Bowman) Kline. Jimmie was the baby boy of the family and was loved and doted on by his older sisters and brother. He was an ornery child who grew up to be an ornery adult. He was keen on getting things his own way, something that wasn’t hard to accomplish with older siblings who adored him. He then married and continued to get what he wanted. He got things his way up to his last breath, refusing to go to the hospital for medical treatment. He wanted to die in his home that he built. He married his bride, Sharon (McAfee) Kline, in 1965 and moved less than 25 feet away from his childhood family home. In that house, his “hun” and he raised three daughters. Jimmie was the only man who couldn’t have a boy. He was surrounded by women: wife, daughters, granddaughters and now great-granddaughters. No boys. His girls always joke that a boy would have ruined him. His granddaughters and great-granddaughters did not have names. They were simply known as the “Bubba,” “Bubby,” that girl or the little one. Jimmie was a mason and carpenter. He owned and operated his own sawmill for many years. He cut timber with Ray Morgan Company, a job he loved; because, he got to work with horses. He was a jack of all trades. Jimmie loved animals. He had several dogs, cats, horses, pigs, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Jimmie loved to hunt deer and turkeys. He butchered his own pigs, cows and deer. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Jimmie never greeted you by your name. You were simply “Bubby.” Jimmie’s final job was his unofficial job as mayor of Bulltail. He would start early every morning. He would get in his truck and take a ride from one end of Pleasant Valley Road to the other, looking for deer, bear, coyotes, turkey, etc. Sometimes he would ride the extra four miles to Foxville to check out what was going on over there. He might stop down at Harne’s store to check out the local gossip, but never ventured further than that. He made sure to repeat his trip on Pleasant Valley Road several times a day. He never drove more than 10 miles per hour. He gave his signature wave, which was the pointer finger in the air and a roll of the hand. When a vehicle got behind him, he would simply pull off the road and motion the car around. Multiple times he stopped traffic; because, he was stopped in the middle of the road talking to someone he knew. He knew everyone. You don’t get to be mayor without knowing and being loved by everyone. Jimmie is survived by his wife, Sharon (McAfee) Kline; daughters, Teresa Cline, Laurie Michael and fiancé, Chris Miller, and Karen Bowman and husband, Ben Bowman Jr.; granddaughters, Danielle Jackson and husband, Chris Jackson, Chelsea Cline, Lauren Bowman and Katie Bowman; great-granddaughters, Shiloh Jackson and Brinley Jackson; brother, Wade Kline; sister, Judy (Kline) Willard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret “Till” Swope, Henrietta McFerren and Agnes Grossnickle. The viewing will be at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial services will be held at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Laye officiating. Jimmie was quite the character and will be missed by all that loved him.
