Description	:	James William Kennedy, eldest son of Rev. and Mrs. H.J. Kennedy, was born April 21, 1891, near LaVerne, Minn., and departed this life at the Community Hospital at Beloit, Kan., May 15, 1961, at the age of 70 years and 24 days. He came to Jewell county, Kan., with the family in 1904. He attended school at Pawnee City, Nebr., and in Jewell and Smith counties in Kansas. In 1926 James was ordained to the Christian ministry at Vining, Kan. He has ministered to Christian Churches at Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, Canada; Carthage and Huron, So. Dak.; Agra, LaCrosse, Rossville and Courtland, Kan., also Oak Creek, Lebanon and Esbon, Kan. It was at Downs, Kan., where he preached five years, he met Miss Helen Simmons and one Sept. 25, 1932, they were married and together continued with his ministry and farming. Later they moved to a farm in Jewell county (sic), continuing with his ministry. In 1947, the family moved to Nelson, Nebr., where his last full time pastorate was held and where he and Helen built a home. He was a lover of outdoor life, and while in Canada on his homestead for six years his leisure time was spent hunting and fishing. His last few years were spent on his farm in the Ionia, Kan., vicinity where he worked in the church and community. Those preceding him in death were his father, mother and sister Adelaide. Surviving are his wife, Helen, and a son Robert of the Air Force, at Ramstein air base in Germany; four brothers and two sisters, Paul D. Kennedy, Upland, Calif.; Ruth Elder, Manhattan, Kan.; Joe Kennedy, San Francisco, Calif.; Esther Buckles, Manhattan, Kan.; Frank Kennedy, Worchester, Mass.; and Henry Kennedy, River Forest, Ill. Funeral services were held at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Ionia May 17, 1961, Rev. G.C. Munyon in charge. Burial was in the Athens cemetery (sic).
