Finch Morgan and the late Grace Efird Morgan and brother to the late Helen Morgan Harris. After graduation from Albemarle High School, James enrolled at Davidson College and subsequently transferred to NC State, where he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After serving in the Occupation Army in Germany in World War II, James was employed by Alcoa in Badin. He joined his father in Morgan Insurance Agency where he worked until purchasing Beam Distributing Company in Albemarle. After selling Beam Distributing to Charlotte Pepsi, he continued as a district manager until his retirement. As a retirement activity, James became part owner of Albemarle Honda until it was sold several years. ago. James was an avid community citizen and an active member of First Lutheran Church. James volunteered for many years and in many capacities with the Boy Scouts, serving as scoutmaster and chairman of the Troop Committee for Troop 29, and as a fund raiser for the scouting program in general in Stanly County. He was a former member of the Lions Club, a current member of the Rotary Club and was named Young Man of the Year in Albemarle. At First Lutheran Church, James was chairman of the Endowment Committee and a former chairman of the Church Council. He also served in the past on the Property Committee. In continuing a focus and emphasis on the ageing started by his father, James was active with Lutheran Services for the Aging in North Carolina and served as that organizations chairman. James was survived by his wife, Josephine Beaver Morgan, a son and daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
