Interment was made In the Schuyler cemetery where rest the remains of a daughter, Mrs. Emma Rice, who passed away several years ago and the wife who passed away on February 4, 1926. James William Sutherland was born at Peoria, Illinois, on July 19, 1838, and passed away at Schuyler, Nebraska, on January 17, 1927, at the advanced age of 88 years, 5 months and 27 days. The early part of his life was spent in his native state. He later moved to Iowa and became a resident of Keokuk county. He wag united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane Miller at Keokuk, Iowa, on July 30, 1857. Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland resided on a farm in Keokuk county, Iowa, until 1876, when they came to Schuyler where the remaining years of their lives were spent. The surviving relatives are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Jeannle Custer of Omaha, William Sutherland of Arriba, Colorado, James M. Sutherland of Newport, Bert Sutherland of Portland, Oregon, John Sutherland of Fremont and Frank E. Sutherland of Schuyler. The deceased Is also survived by thirty grandchildren and fifteen great grand children. Mr. Sutherland devoted the greater part of his life to farming and teaming here in Schuyler. He was exceptionally sturdy and strong for one of his advanced year3. He was given to habits of industry and his life was filled with days of hard honest toll. Mr. Sutherland was Identified with the Baptist church, for many years and w'as a regular attendant at the services of his church when his health would permit. His last days were comforted with his unfaltering faith and trust in the God Into whose hands he had committed the safe keeping of his soul. On January 26, 1872, Mr. Sutherland was ordained as a Baptist minister by Elder B. Rollings at Roca Creek, Keokuk county, Iowa.
