Description	:	DEATH OF A PROMINENT MAN Mr. Thomas Hawpe, a well known and popular citizen, died Tuesday night at his home near Greenville, and was buried Wednesday from the Methodist church, a large congregation attending. Rev. S.W. Haddon preached the funeral, and there were also present Rev. Messrs. Lapsley, Blair, Parker and Jones. Mr. Hawpe was about 57 years old, and had a large circle of relatives and connections, among whom are the Funkhousers, Mrs. W.N. Clemmer, and Miss Edith Hawpe, of this city. He left a widow who was *Miss Brown, a sister, Mrs. S.H. Walker; a son, William Hawpe; a daughter, Mrs. K. Foster of Mt. Meridian, and his venerable mother who is 83 years old. Mr. Hawpe was a member of the Royal Arcanum, Valley Council of this city, which pays its members $3,000. His death was announced at the meeting Tuesday night and a committee appointed to prepare the papers. The following gentleman acted as pallbearers: Messrs. John Clarke, R. Frank Larew, J.A. Fulton, S.A.D. McKee, J.B. Smith and Geo. W. Fitch, all of whom are Masons, of which order he was also a member.
