Read More	OBITUARY One of the pioneers of the district, James Williams, passed away on the 1st instant, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. R. Tiddy, at 65 Annandale Street, Annandale, aged; 83 years, the immediate cause of death being bronchitis. The late Mr. Williams was born on the Richmond Lowlands, being the son of the late Robert Williams, whom some of the old hands may remember. In his path of life he was confronted with many of the vicissitudes which only those who had to face them could appreciate. He was one of those old hardy Hawkesbury natives who have made their presence felt wherever they were. For 47 years he was the trusted employee of the late Benjamin Richards, and those who knew that gentle man can readily understand that he would have no 'wasters.' For the late Benjamin Richards he drove stock from one end of the State to the other. He knew almost every inch of the country in the early days, and there was never a beast that could out-do the good old James Williams. About eight years ago he met with an accident while assisting to truck some cattle at the northern township of Guyra. By the way, it may be said that his employer had such confidence in him that he entrusted all his buying in the country districts to him. He had purchased a lot of cattle in the north and was consigning them from Guyra to the Riverstone Meatworks. His men were some what slow in getting the cattle on to the train, and he was giving them a helping hand. While thus engaged he was bumped by a truck and was disabled. He was brought home to Richmond and was for several months prostrate. The firm of B. Richards and Son compensated the old gentleman handsomely, and, be it said, he was well cared for, financially, by the firm until he passed away last week. The subject of this notice was identified with the old Richmond veteran, Mr. Alfred Smith, who can recount many stirring episodes of the early days. When the late Mr. James Williams severed his connection with the firm of Benjamin Richards and Son, his son, Mr. James Williams, junr., took his place; and is still employed in that capacity. He was a brother of Messrs. John Williams, of 'Tyreel,' Agnes Banks, and George Williams, of 'Tyreel', Moree, the late Mrs. Benjamin Richards, of 'Kamilaroi,' Richmond, Mrs. Peter Eather, of Boggabri, and the deceased brothers are Messrs. Thomas and Robert Williams, of Agnes Banks. He married Susannah, daughter of the late Daniel Eaton, of 'Eatonville,' Richmond, who is in her 81st year, and still living. The family are: James (Annandale), Albert John (Charleville, Q), Mrs. Jos. Ives (Paddington), Mrs. R. Tiddy (Annandale), Clarence Eaton Williams (manager of Allandale homestead station, Q), Mrs. W. Foster (Richmond), Percival, John, Daniel Williams (Railway Hotel, Charleville, Q). Those deceased are: Robert Kars Williams, who died in Queensland about ten years ago ; Amy Jane Williams, who died about 25 years ago on her grandfather's station at Gundagai; Alice Mary, who died on her father's farm at Grose Vale about 46 years ago. The late Mr. Williams leaves 12 grand-children and 3 great-grand -children. The funeral took place on Saturday. The remains were brought to Richmond by the 1.30 train from Sydney, and were met at the station by a large number of friends.
