Mr. Chrestensen was born February 5, 1913 in Union, Oregon to Marchall and Annie (Hedvig)Chrestensen. When 7 years old, he and his mother came to Olympia, making their home on 9th St., which he has lived on for 81 years. James graduated from William Winlock Miller High School in 1931. Read More	The Olympian--Sunday, December 9, 2001 Olympia, Thurston County, WA James Woodrow Chrestensen James, 88, passed away on December 6, 2001 at his home in Olympia. Mr. Chrestensen was born February 5, 1913 in Union, Oregon to Marchall and Annie (Hedvig)Chrestensen. When 7 years old, he and his mother came to Olympia, making their home on 9th St., which he has lived on for 81 years. James graduated from William Winlock Miller High School in 1931. He was clerk and delivery boy for Crabille Grocery until enlisted in the Army, September 1942, and discharged in February 1946 as a Corporal. He was in Rainbow Division and last stationed at Fort Canby, Washington, using last of the disappearing guns. After discharge, he worked as a computer programmer in data processing for Employment Security and DSHS. He retired June 1, 1974 due to poor health. After retirement, the winter months were spent in Arizona where Jim enjoyed oil painting of the desert and being a rock hound. Jim was always enjoying active church work, and visiting shut-ins. He loved nature and enjoyed fishing, archery, oil painting, poetry, and music. On May 25, 1951 he was united in marriage at First Christian Church to Marvel A. Byerly. He was a wonderful husband and father. They have one son James M. Chrestensen and one grandson James W. Chrestensen II. Survivors are his wife of 50 years Marvel, son James M., grandson James W. II, of Olympia, and cousin Christ James of Ephrata, Wash. Visitation will be Wed., Dec. 12th at 9:30am at Forest Funeral Home. Services start at 1:00pm, also at Forest Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.
