His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hamlet, NC, Sunday, March 10, 2002, with the Rev. Randy Bishop officiating. Entombment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Mr. Crooke, was born in Monroe NC, on December 25, 1919, and lived in Hamlet from 1941-2001. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hamlet, was a Mason and a Shriner, and was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp in the Pacific Theater, Guam and Iwo Jima. He retired from Seaboard Coastline Railroad and Amtrak after 47 years of service. His railroad career began in 1941 with Seaboard Airline Railroad. He is survived by his three children: twin sons, James R. Crooke and his wife, Kathy of Raleigh, NC, Wriston D. Crooke and his wife Pam of Apex, NC; and his daughter, Kathryn C. Norman and her hus- band, Tim, of Richmond, VA; two sisters, Hazel C. Roberts of Monroe, NC and Janie C. Conder and her husband Frank, of Indian Trail, NC; and sister-in-law Eula K. Cooke of Greensboro, NC; and five grandchildren, Caroline C. Ford and her husband, Bo, and Lora Lea C. Young and her husband, Chris, both of Rockingham, NC. Jennifer and Michael Crooke of Raleigh, NC. Eliza- beth Crooke of Apex, NC; and five nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lora Price Crooke, his brother Jesse Ray Crooke of Greensboro, NC and his parents Webb and Florence Crooke of Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 9, 2002 from 7:00- 9:00 p.m. at the Harrington Funeral Home Chapel in Hamlet, NC.
