Read More	Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Tuesday, September 4, 1917 JOHN AALFS IS DEAD WAS WELL KNOWN RESIDENT HERE FOR MANY YEARS Word was received in Le Mars on Monday of the death of John Aalfs, a former well known resident of this city. Mr. Aalfs died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Conrad DeJong, in Orange City, where he had made his home of late years. He had been a sufferer from cancer and for the past six months, had been seriously ill. John Aalfs was a native of the province of Groningen, Holland, Europe, where he was born 72 years ago. With his family je came to Le Mars about thirty-five years ago. He is survived by five children, Nittert Aalfs, of Sioux City; Jake Aalfs, of Akron, Mrs. Conrad DeJong, of Orange City; Mrs. Dick Vandeberg, of Maurice; Mrs. Emma Winter, of Kalamazoo, Mich.. His wife and one son preceded him in death many years ago. Funeral services will be held in Orange City today and the remains brought to Le Mars for interment in the city cemetery beside the remains of his wife and son. John Aalfs had a wide acquaintance in Le Mars and in Sioux county and was a good citizen who enjoyed the respect and esteem of the community. Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel Friday, Sept. 7, 1917 The funeral of the late John Aalfs a former resident of Le Mars was held at Orange City on Tuesday and the remains brought here for interment. A brief funeral service was held at the grave. Rev. James DuPree, of Sioux Center, spoke in Holland and Rev. John Engleman, of Orange City, in English.
