ALEXANDER RINTOUL An old and respected resident of the Shelburne district, Jane Armstrong, widow of the late Alexander Rintoul, passed away at Cara Villa Nursing Home, Shelburne, on Tuesday, July 28th, 1953, in her 90th year. Deceased was born in Osprey Township, in Sept. 1863, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Armstrong, but spent the greater part of her 54 years of married life in Amaranth. Mr. Rintoul predeceased her 10 years ago. She possessed a fine Christian character, and with her kindly disposition made many friends. She was a member of Laurel United Church. Two daughters and four sons survive - James and William, of Amaranth; Erwilda (Mrs. Roy Davis), Shelburne, Annie, Caisteor Centre, Edith predeceased in her 13th year, Nelson and Russell, of Amaranth, also 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The funeral service was held from the Steenson Funeral Home, on Thursday, July 30th. conducted by Rev. H. O. Hongisto. Interment took place in Shelburne Cemetery. The pallbearers were Morton Rintoul, Gordon Rintoul, Herb Kinsley, H. G. Cripps, Russell Sproule and Samuel McLaren. The many floral tributes showed the high esteem in which Mrs. Rintoul was held. The flower-bearers were eight grandchildren and one great nephew, Edith Wilson, Isabel Brooks, Helen O'Reilly, Catherine Davis, Ruth and Willard Rintoul, Orval and Wallace Rintoul and Bill Cruikshank.
