Upon the marriage of Jane Carr Salmon to the Reverend T. Rivers Dunn, "Green Mountain" descended to that line. It was the birthplace of Dr. Thomas Martin Dunn. Letter from Thomas Rivers Dunn to his son William Melville Summerfield Dunn. Oct 7, 1863 [Tuesday] My Dear Son, 20 minutes before 4 o’clock on yesterday your Dear Mother fell on sleep in Christ. She was perfectly willing to die. She had no doubts in regard to her salvation and tomorrow at 3 o’clock we bury one of the noblest and best wife and mother. I have selected her grave leaving a space between her and your grand ma for my own. This is the greatest loss of our lives. God help us my son to meet that dear one in heaven. Sometimes I think I can’t bear up under the shock but her willingness to die and the hope of reunion in heaven comes to my relief. Bob is here. Luther left the day before she did. Your mother will rest ___? down. Wish you could be here. Rededicate yourself to God my son as I have tried to do. I look to my dear children now as my earthly comforts, to fill the void made in my great loss. My heart is too full to write. Bettie and Sallie are all to me that dear children can be [1].
