Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a Farley American Legion Auxiliary service at 6:15 p.m., the Farley American Legion will meet at 6:30 p.m., and a wake service at 7 p.m. Mrs. Spoden worked at the Worthington State Bank, Farley State Bank, Key City Bank and later worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for the vocation office at Divine Word Seminary, Epworth. She was born on Nov. 10, 1929, in Teeds Grove, Iowa, daughter of Lester and Mary (Barnoske) Losey. She married John Spoden on June 10, 1952, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington, Iowa. She graduated from St. Paul's High School, Worthington, in 1948. She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Epworth, and its altar and rosary society, for which she served as past president. She also was a member of the Farley American Legion Auxiliary, Arthritis Support Group and the Lupus Support Group. She was very active in community organizations and served on many committees in her community. Surviving are her husband, John Spoden, of Epworth; three sons, Jim Spoden, of Cedar Rapids, Joe (Karen) Spoden, of Marion, and Jerry (Margie) Spoden, of Marion; two daughters, Joan (Wayne) Marxen, of Epworth, and Judy (Jerry) Connolly, of Farley; eight grandchildren, Adam, Justin and Rachel Marxen, Angela, Michelle and Jamie Spoden, Amber Connolly and Christopher Spoden; three sisters, her twin, Joan Losey, of Dubuque, Mary Catherine Kirsch, of Dyersville, and Geraldine (Wayne) Keel, of Miles; and a brother, Maurice Losey, of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Losey, in 1995; twin sisters in 1927; and an infant brother. A Jane E. Spoden Memorial Fund has been established.
