Description	:	Jane E. (Maas) Pickel (1910 - 1999) Jane E. Pickel was born July 1, 1910, the daughter of August and Della Clubine Maas. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at the age of eighty-eight. Jane was born on a farm five miles northwest of Danbury, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ and confirmed on June 6, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. (Maas) Pickel (1910 - 1999) Jane E. Pickel was born July 1, 1910, the daughter of August and Della Clubine Maas. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at the age of eighty-eight. Jane was born on a farm five miles northwest of Danbury, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ and confirmed on June 6, 1936 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. After completing her education, Jane helped her parents at home and later worked in the Herman Jepsen home. On September 14, 1929, Jane was united in marriage to Peter Pickel at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Parsonage in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Schleswig area before moving to Schleswig in 1961. After moving to Schleswig, Jane began cooking at the Schleswig School until retiring in 1982. Jane and Peter were caretakers of the Morgan Cemetery for twelve years, and caretakers of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig for seventeen years. Jane was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig and their Ladies Aid. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She loved flowers and doing yard work, raising vegetables and canning. Jane also enjoyed butchering chickens and selling them. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Peter on April 30, 1998, one great-grandson, three brothers, Elmer, Harm and LeRoy Maas. Survivors include three sons, Bernhard Pickel and his wife, Betty of Mapleton; Richard Pickel and his wife, Lois of Schleswig; Wilbert Pickel and his wife, Betty of Sac City; four daughters, Evelyn Stamm and her husband, Eugene of Omaha; Rubie Kastner and her husband, Rawlo of Schleswig; Beverly Rix and her husband, Allen of Manning; Dorothy Rix and her husband, Larry of Des Moines; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Maas of Mapleton; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 7, 1999 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery. Pre-service music "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," "I Look To The Shepherd" and "Amazing Grace" were provided by her daughter Rubie Kastner. Marlene Hight accompanied the congregation with "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" and "Jesus Still Lead On." The special service music was "How Great Thou Art" and "Sheltered In The Arms Of God," also performed by Rubie Kastner. Pallbearers were grandsons, Dennis Stamm, David Stamm, Glenn Pickel, Scott Rix, Todd Rix, Ross Kastner, Doug Pickel and Rick Pickel. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters Shelly Carlson, Tammy Johnson, Rachel Bruns, Donna Shaw, Lori Kragel, Debbie Strohm, Regina Klahn, Traci Ewoldt, Diann Pickel, Sara Vote and Terri Rosener.
