Description	:	Jane Elliot was born 1791 in Cumberland County, NC, the eldest of 6 known surviving children (4 boys/2 girls) born to wealthy planter, George Elliot (also found as Elliott) and Mary Elizabeth Smith. Her father was born in Scotland and immigrated to the American Colonies about 1774. He established the plantation "Ellerslie" in what is today Cumberland Co, NC, where Jane and her 5 siblings were raised; including her brother, Col. Read More	Jane Elliot was born 1791 in Cumberland County, NC, the eldest of 6 known surviving children (4 boys/2 girls) born to wealthy planter, George Elliot (also found as Elliott) and Mary Elizabeth Smith. Her father was born in Scotland and immigrated to the American Colonies about 1774. He established the plantation "Ellerslie" in what is today Cumberland Co, NC, where Jane and her 5 siblings were raised; including her brother, Col. Alexander Elliot, wealthy lumberman of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, NC, who served as a colonel in the militia, was a member of the North Carolina House of Commons, 1824-1825, and the North Carolina Senate, 1826. Jane was 39 years old in 1830 when she became the 2nd wife of 53 year old widower, William Montford Boylan, Sr, a wealthy Raleigh newspaper publisher and planter who came to Wake County from Pluckemin, NJ. William had 11 children from his prior marriage to Elizabeth Stokes McCulloch, and most were fully grown by the time this marriage took place. Jane and William would become parents to one known child: Jane Elliot Boylan (c. 1832). Jane was widowed in 1861 when her husband of 31 years passed at age 84. She survived another 9 years, passing in 1870 at age 79.
