Description	:	The Atchison Weekly Champion, Thursday 20 April 1899 Mrs. Jane Montgomery Martin, the mother of the late John A. Martin, died at the residence of her daughter Mrs. F. D. Mills, in Kansas City, Kan., April 18, of heart disease and pneumonia, aged 90 years. Mrs. Martin was taken sick April 10, and owing to her advanced years the physicians gave but little hope of her recovery from the first. Mrs. Martin was taken sick April 10, and owing to her advanced years the physicians gave but little hope of her recovery from the first. Mrs. Martin died peacefully, surrounded by many of her near relatives and friends. Mrs. Martin was unusually bright for one of such advanced years, and her remembrance of happenings in the early part of this century was wonderfully accurate. Mrs. Martin was born in Brownsville, Pa. At the age of 22 she married James Martin, a prosperous young farmer, and the young couple lived in Pennsylvania until 1857, when they came to Kansas, and located in Atchison, where Mr. Martin engaged in business. Mr. Martin died in 1889, and his widow went to live at Kansas City, Kan., with her daughter, where she since remained. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Martin,l three of whom are living. they are Mrs. F. D. Mills of Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. H. T. Smith of Atchison. Colonel John A. Martin, her son, who was governor of Kansas died in the summer of 1889, shortly after his retirement from public life. Another son, Alf. H. Martin, died a year or so after the death of Colonel Martin. A short funeral service was this morning.
