Thanks. Cara The Summerfield Sun (KS), 9 Feb 1894 Mrs. Jane Clark Died--On Saturday, Feb. 3, 1894, on the old homestead, Mrs. Jane Clark. Mrs. Jane Clark was born at Meridan, England, May 9, 1816. She emigrated to the United States with her parents in 1820, the parents settling in Indiana. She married Thomas Clark in 1836. In 1866 the family moved to the home now occupied by her aged and heart broken companion and where they had so long shared the joys and sorrows of their earthly sojourn. The funeral services were held at the house and conducted by Rev. Duncan of Liberty. The funeral was the most largely attended of any ever occurring in this locality. The deceased leaves a large offspring to mourn the loss of their aged ancestor. There are nine children living, seven of whom are living near the old home. She leaves 48 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom attest the sturdy stock from which they sprung. She was a member of the Baptist church since 1878 and has ever since shown forth the true Christian spirit, and all who knew her esteemed her a veritable "Mother in Israel." The friends of the family, and they are a legion, all condole with them over the loss of the dear departed; and especially with the aged and infirm partner of her joys and sorrows, who is stricken by the loss of his loved companion. She filled the full measure of her devotion, lived a good life full of years, and went out in the evening of life as quietly and peacefully as she entered its morning. Contributor: cara (47072115)
