Read More	BLUFFTON BANNER Thursday - June 14, 1888; Page 3 Obituary for Jane (Thomas) Todd Mrs. Jane Todd, the oldest daughter of Enos and Margaret (Cameron) Thomas, was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, January 2, 1807. She was married to Jacob Todd, January 14, 1830. The family moved to Wells county, Indiana, in October, 1851. Her husband died November 3, 1861. They were the parents of eleven children, six daughters and five sons, eight of whom are now living. Samuel T., Uriah and Mary Jane have gone before. Father and Mother Todd united with the Methodist Episcopal church soon after their marriage and both lived and died in the faith espoused by them in early life. Mother Todd was a woman of unusual mental and physical ability and possessed a remarkable memory. She was generous and kind, and Christian charity was a marked characteristic of her life. Her kindness of heart and charitable disposition endeared her to those around her. She died after a brief illness of a few hours. The day before she died she appeared to be in her usual health. Death came to her like a swift-winged angel of mercy. She passed to the other shore without a struggle. Calmly, quietly and serenely as a child falls to sleep in its mother's arms she breathed her last. She died at four o'clock p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 1888, at her home in Jefferson township where she had resided since the family came to this State. She had reached the ripe age of 81 years, 5 months and 3 days. The mother is gone but the remembrance of her nobility of soul and her life's work full of good deeds and loving attention to her family and friends will remain with them to illuminate the clouds that may gather around them while they linger upon the shores of time. She leaves surviving her besides the eight children, forty-one grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren to mourn her departure. She was buried in Prospect cemetery at 4 p.m., June 7th, beside the remains of her deceased husband, sons and daughter named above. The services were conducted in the chapel by Rev. Henry Bridge, her pastor, assisted by Rev. Wm. Beaty and J.W. Foughty--lifetime friends of the family--all of whom spoke feelingly of the grand life and Christian character of the departed mother. The large concourse of friends and neighbors that attended the last service to her memory testified to the high esteem in which she was held by all. Her life was one of noble purposes well performed. The remembrance of her life is a blessing to her friends and family.
