Description	:	Jane Whitton was born in Yorkshire, England, on October 30, 1840, and at the age of three years she came to Canada with her parents, who settled on a farm in Seymour, Ontario. On November 6, 1856, she was united in marriage with Hector McLean, formerly of Edinburgh, Scotland. They lived in Canada until 1868, when they moved to Iowa, and after residing there for two years, in the spring of 1870, they moved onto a homestead in Seward County, Nebraska. Read More	Jane Whitton was born in Yorkshire, England, on October 30, 1840, and at the age of three years she came to Canada with her parents, who settled on a farm in Seymour, Ontario. On November 6, 1856, she was united in marriage with Hector McLean, formerly of Edinburgh, Scotland. They lived in Canada until 1868, when they moved to Iowa, and after residing there for two years, in the spring of 1870, they moved onto a homestead in Seward County, Nebraska. After enduring all the hardships and privations of a pioneer life, and establishing a comfortable home, they sold same in 1883 and moved to a farm in the Crounse neighborhood, Lancaster County, Nebraska, where they remained for many years, and later bought a farm adjoining Raymond in said County, where they made their home until advancing years made them feel it advisable to retire from an active life. They then bought a home in Seward, Nebraska, and lived there until the death of Mr. McLean, on December 29, 1915. Since that time Mrs. McLean has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sydney Donisthorpe, at Geneva, Nebraska, where she has remained continually, with the exception of taking a short trip each summer, to visit old friends and relatives. For the last four years Mrs. McLean has been unable to walk, owing to repeated attacks of rheumatism, and has been obliged to sit all day in an invalid chair. She passed away suddenly on Friday, January 6, 1922, at 5 p.m., in Geneva, Nebraska, and the funeral took place on Sunday, January 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Seward, Nebraska. The services were held in the Methodist church in said town, the sermon being preached by Rev. J. G. Stannard of University Place, her former pastor, and the choir and pallbearers were all old friends and neighbors of hers when living at Crounse and Raymond. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Seward Cemetery. She leaves surviving her, three children: Mrs. Sydney Donisthorpe, of Geneva, Nebraska; Mrs. J. C. Garland of Seward, Nebr. and Allan McLean of Dunning, Nebraska. Also eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. McLean's pleasant manner, and kind and lovable disposition made for her friends innumerable, many of whom attended the last sad rites, and each and all of whom will cherish her memory.
