Janet Ann Peterson was born Jan. 16, 1956 in Huron to Wayne and Helen (Knippling) Peterson. She attended school at Pratt Township in Hyde County and later graduated from Highmore High School in 1974. In 1977, she graduated from St. John's School of Nursing. Janet worked in Lander, Wyoming for four years and in 1981, she went to work at St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre where she worked for twenty-five years. The last twenty years at St. Mary's Hospital, she spent her time working in the I.C.U. Janet helped start St. Mary's Hospice Program where she volunteered for many years. On Feb. 13, 1988, she married Richard Allen Martinmaas in Polo at St. Liborius Catholic Church, and to this union, three children were born, Jessie, Scott, and Joni. After nineteen years of marriage, they renewed their vows in front of their children and family at their home. Faith was a very important part of Janet's life. She was a member of the St. Liborius Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Polo Christian Mothers, DRE, CCD Teacher, and Right To Life. Janet played softball in Lander and Pierre and after she was married, she coached youth teams in Orient. She served on the Polo School Board and helped coach the Polo Bears' basketball team. Janet was very active in the daily happenings on the farm, which included chickens, hogs, cattle and pheasants. She also enjoyed hosting hunters yearly. Janet found the joy in everyday task and had a song for every occasion, making up songs if needed. Janet's favorite motto in life was, "Germs and Jesus are everywhere, so wash your hands and say your prayers." Janet's memory will be cherished by her loving husband Rick and her children: Jessie, Scott and Joni all of Orient; Parents: Wayne and Helen Peterson, Highmore; Brothers: Tom (Kae) Peterson, Seattle, Wash., Jim (Tammy) Peterson, Belle Fourche, and Charlie (Georgene) Peterson, Wolsey; Sisters: Cheryl (Fred) Schaefers, Polo and Betty (Steve) Clark, Fort. Pierre. Rick's family includes: Ray (Becky) Martinmaas, Orient, Randy (Jan) Martinmaas, Orient, Sandy (Larry) Aesoph, Highmore, Kathy (Gary) Remmers, Orient, Paulette (Charlie) Applehof, Kranzburg, Lonnie Martinmaas, Orient, Lori (Mike) Kalkman, Miranda, Julie (Rod) Spartz, Kranzburg, Mike (Laura) Martinmaas, Orient, Mary Lynn (Roger) Metizenger, Redfield, Brad (Shelly) Martinmaas, Orient and many special godchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant children, mother-in-law: Wanelda Martinmaas, two nieces, Kelly and Nellie Aesoph and one nephew Jason Aesoph. Capital Journal March 19, 2007
