Read More	Died at University Buffalo Medical Center, Buffalo, New York Polio EVENING JOURNAL LISBON, OHIO FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1953 RITES SET FOR MRS. BOYER Funeral services for Mrs. Ralph Boyer nee Janet Frantz, who died unexpectedly Wednesday in a Buffalo hospital from polio, will be held from the Akron Emmanuel Evangelical & Reformed Church Sunday at 3 p.m. and from St. Jacob's Evangelical & Reformed Church, north of Lisbon, at 2 p.m. Monday, it was announced today Interment will be at Lisbon Cemetery. Friends may call at the Echard Funeral Home in Akron this evening, any time Saturday and from 10:30 a.m. until noon Sunday. The body will lie-in-state at the Akron church from noon until time for the service. The Rev. Don Powers of Cuyahoga Falls and the Rev. Robert Mathes of Wadsworth, will officiate at services in Akron. The body will be brought to St. Jacob's Church here following the services Sunday. Friends may call at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from noon Monday until the time of service at 2 p.m. The Rev. E.D. Fager pastor of St. Jacob's and the Rev. Cari Bormouth of Louisville Former St. Jacob minister will officiate. Mrs. Boyer was born west of Lisbon, Feb 26, 1919, a daughter of Guy and Mary McPherson Frantz. She attended Lisbon schools and graduated from David Anderson High School (1938) and Heidelberg College cum laude. She did post graduate work at the University of Chicago for two years where she was a settlement worker. After completing her post graduate work she was with United Charities of Chicago for another two years. Mrs. Boyer was a member of St. Jacob's Church and was active in Sunday School. She had served as church pianist and was a member of the Girl Guild of the church. She had been a member of the Lisbon High School orchestra, the Y-Teens, had been a 4-H Club member and a member of Mt. Nebo Grange. She had served as president of the WYCA at Heidelberg where she also was a member of the honor society, Kappa Delta Pi, Senior Laureat and Euglossian Literary Society. She married Ralph Boyer, Sept 7, 1944, in Chicago while he was attending Chicago Theological Seminary. The couple moved to Akron in October, 1946, where Rev. Boyer accepted a call. Survivors include her husband, three children: her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Guy Frantz, W. Lincoln Way; a sister Mrs. Paul Work of Sandusky, and her grandmother, Mrs. Anna Frantz. Mrs. Boyer was stricken with polio Oct. 16, 1952. She had been a patient at Akron Children's Hospital until Aug. 12, when she was taken to the Respiratory Center at the University of Buffalo's School of Medicine where she died Wednesday morning. Her death came as somewhat of a shock … she apparently had been making some progress. EVENING JOURNAL LISBON, OHIO WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1953 MRS. JANET BOYER, POLIO VICTIM, DIES IN BUFFALO Death of Mother of 3 Unexpected Mrs. Janet Frantz Boyer, 34, wife of Rev. Ralph Boyer of Akron, died unexpectedly this morning in a Buffalo hospital from Bulbar Polio. She was stricken with the disease more than a year ago, but had seemed to be getting along as well as could be expected. Mrs. Boyer had been at the Respirator center at the University of Buffalo S School of Medicine since August 12, when she was taken there in a specially-equipped military plane for iron-lung patients. She had been a patient at Akron Children's Hospital form Oct. 16, 1952, when she was stricken, until last August. She had spent most of her time, since afflicted, in an iron lung, except for a few minutes each day when she was placed on a rocking bed which facilitated breathing. At Buffalo she was able also to be placed in a rocking bed and could sit up in a wheelchair with the use of a respirator. Rev. Boyer pastor of the Akron Emmanuel Evangelical & Reformed Chruch, left this morning for Buffalo. Besides her husband, she leaves three children, Richard, 6, Carol, 4, and David, 2 and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Frantz, W. Lincoln Way, and a sister Mrs. Geraldine Work of Sandusky. Her son David had suffered a slight case of polio at the time his mother was stricken, but was hospitalized only for a short time. He has no ill effects from the disease. Mrs. Boyer's body was completely paralyzed. She had the use only of the finders on her left hand. Funeral arrangements are pending.
