Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria, South Dakota. Janet was born January 22, 1930 to Melvin and Fern Olsen in Alexandria, South Dakota. She grew up and attended school in Alexandria. Janet married Donald Prouty on September 12, 1948 and worked as a farm wife and then worked with Donald in road construction. After Donald had a stroke Janet took care of him, taking him to all his appointments as well as cleaning houses and other businesses to help financially and maintain the household until his passing on August 5, 1999. At the age of 89 she began taking care of pets for people when they needed to be gone or go on vacation. She made a point to make sure everyone on her list got a birthday and Christmas card. Janet has always given to the needy families and welcomed people into her home. Janet loved spending time with her family, enjoyed taking care of cats and was always willing to help those in need. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four children, Barb, Ervin, Joe, and Baby Prouty; as well as one sister, Gayle.
