Janet "Jan" Mae Burket was born on January 4, 1929 at Des Moines, IA to Leslie M. and Edith (Beeney) Smith. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines, IA with the class of 1947. She continued her education at Simpson College and then later at AIB School of Business. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Burket on August 10, 1952 at the Highland Park Christian Church in Des Moines. Jan taught school for 2 years and then was a homemaker. Later she worked at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home as assistant activities director. Jan was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church, UMW and taught in Children's Christian Ministry. She was also a member of Eastern Star, "Singing Wheels" and Square Dance Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, doing handwork, painting landscape and still life's. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Edith Smith and a sister, Eleanor Marvin. Survivors include her husband, Bill Burket, Minburn, IA, sons: Don (Trish) Burket, Ames, IA, Greg (Barb) Burket, Minburn, IA, and Chuck (Gina) Burket, Grimes, IA, grandchildren: Hope (Michael) Rand, Faith (Justin) Henson, Matthew Burket, Heidi Burket and Megan Burket, great grandchildren: Kyrie and Lexis, a brother, Richard (Lou) Smith, Des Moines, IA and nieces and nephews.
