"Jan" Taylor struggled along to raise her family until she met and married Lawrence "Larry" Taylor and became mother to two more children. It was no problem to her; she doted on her family and they on her. "All seven of us would take turns combing her long hair, while another would rub her feet with lotion," said her daughter Holly. "The smell of that lotion remains in our memories. Her two younger children remember her amazing mouse stories she would make up at bedtime. "They were so vivid that when we closed our eyes we could see those mice, their colors and everything about them." A friend came to Holly one day and said, "Your mom just oozes with love." Every child in the family had at least one friend who considered Jan to be their second mom. Jan always said that family was more important than friends as they would always be there for you. It was a shock to her children when Jan died unexpectedly at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck following a stroke. She was 66 years old. The daughter of Emil and Olga (Koehler) Sailer, Jan was born April 23, 1939, in Hazen, N.D. She grew up in the area and was educated north of Beulah and in Beulah. In April of 1958, Jan and Arley Kruckenberg were married in Montana. They lived in various places including Coquille, Ore. After Arley died Aug. 17, 1970, Jan and her five children returned to Beulah. On Feb. 6, 1974, she married Lawrence "Larry" Taylor in Stanton, N.D., and lived in Beulah their entire married life. Jan and Larry's meeting has always been a source of amusement for the children. Larry met Jan in an art/painting class and the first time he met her children there were only three with her. "So when there were six kids at the dinner table every night he questioned what was going on," they said, laughing at the memory. "He was relieved to find out the sixth was just a friend of the family." Their mom was also all knowing. When one of her sons was in Japan in the Air Force, she knew everything he did. "And she always knew when one of us needed a boost and would call us." Jan helped raise two of her grandchildren in their early years while their mothers went to school. She enjoyed reading, sewing, Bible study, painting, artwork and crafts, and of course spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors are her husband Larry of Beulah; children, Carmen and John Mohl of Beulah, Darcy and Mark Meyer of Vancouver, Wash., Paula and Joe Duppong of Beulah, Joan Kruckenberg of Chicago, Ill., Doug Kruckenberg of Mandan, N.D., Holly and Michael Hitland of Mobridge, and Crystal and Christopher Lind of Lisbon, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, Jason and Candi, Amber and Nate, Caty, Kara, Traves and Darcey, Logan, McKenna, Charnelle, Brooke, Tess, Jalen; five great-grandchildren, Clay, Beckett, McCoy, Madison and Kaylee; one brother, Duane and Mary Sailer of Bismarck; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Janice was preceded in death by her first husband, Arley, and her parents. Memorials are being directed to Sakakawea Select Hospice, Hazen, or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund, Beulah. Funeral services for Janice were Saturday, Feb. 18, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Beulah. The Rev. Kris Nyman officiated and Janice Crowe gave a special prayer. Michelle Klein was organist and duets were by Barb Gustafson and Jays Seibel. Casketbearers were Dallas Sailer, Jim Sailer, Gaylen Sailer, Garner Sailer, Glenn Crowe and Myron Bornemann. All Jan's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends were honorary bearers. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Beulah with Seibel Funeral homes of Beulah and Hazen in charge of arrangements. ============================
