Description	:	Janice "Jann" Kay Hansmann was born October 6, 1936, in Fostoria, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Martha (Scheerhorn) Berenger. She grew up in Dickinson County near Spirit Lake. Jann completed her GED later in life and was very proud of that accomplishment. On June 19, 1952, Jann was united in marriage to Howard Van Daalen, they later divorced. She was later married on March 12, 1961, to Kurt Hansmann at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Algona in 1976, where she worked at the Kossuth County Care Facility. Jann managed the Whittemore Golf Course... Read More	Janice "Jann" Kay Hansmann was born October 6, 1936, in Fostoria, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Martha (Scheerhorn) Berenger. She grew up in Dickinson County near Spirit Lake. Jann completed her GED later in life and was very proud of that accomplishment. On June 19, 1952, Jann was united in marriage to Howard Van Daalen, they later divorced. She was later married on March 12, 1961, to Kurt Hansmann at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to Algona in 1976, where she worked at the Kossuth County Care Facility. Jann managed the Whittemore Golf Course for a period of time and also worked for local farmers and thrived on a hard day's work. For much of her adult life she was a cross country solo truck driver. She forged the road to open trucking as a career that women could do well too. She loved meeting and talking with people as she traveled the country and thrived on her independence until the day she died. Prior to her retirement she worked as a dispatcher for a trucking company. In her later years, Jann was plagued with serious health problems and fought the pain with bravery. Jann died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at her home in Algona. She was 73. Left to cherish her memory is daughter, Vonda; close family friend, Darrel Miller, her canine companion, Precious, whom she adored. Also surviving are two nephews, Doug Roelofsen and Lee Berenger and two nieces, Cheryl Ownby and Gayle Weiskircher. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kurt; six sisters and seven brothers. Oakcrest Funeral Service
