She passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 75. Jan was born in Carroll, Iowa. She attended the Manilla Community Schools graduating with the class of 1955. Jan was baptized in the Lutheran faith in 1937 and confirmed in 2000. On January 29, 1956, Jan was united in marriage to Paul Karr at Trinity Lutheran in Manilla, Iowa, and to this union was born two daughters. The couple were charter members of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. On December 6, 1975, she was married to Dr. Howard Morman in Yankton, South Dakota. Winters in Arizona were a favorite spot for them as Jan delighted in the sunshine. Jan was a very friendly and active lady that liked to be on the go. She enjoyed dancing, socializing and playing Scat with family and friends, crocheting, and following her grandchildren's activities, and was especially fond of animals. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating, playing basketball for Manilla High School, and was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Jan loved her job working for the National Park Service at Mt. Rushmore as a dorm mother for the employees for 12 years. Once you made friends with Jan, it was a true and devoted friendship forever. Jan was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; one brother, Gary; and one sister-in-law, Lucy. Survivors include two daughters, Becky and her husband, Gary; and Lori; two grandchildren, Faith and Emily; two brothers, Roger and his wife, Connie; Dennie; and one sister, Kathy; dear friend, Lyle; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 11 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2013, Zion Lutheran Church at Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service. Graveside rites were held 11 A.M., Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Yankton, South Dakota. Organist Karen Kahl provided accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Beautiful Savior," "Amazing Grace," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Honorary Pallbearers were Larry Whelchel, Larry Hintgen, Russ Jobman, Ron Humphrey, and Larry Justice. Serving as Pallbearers were Richard Schwieso, Lowell Knutson, Kevin Schwieso, Robert Stepp, Keith Schwieso, and Alan Jensen. The family invited everyone to remain at the church for fellowship and lunch provided by Staley's and the Ladies Aid.
