Description	:	Mrs. Janie Louise Ashe Sims, age 89, widow of Marion LeGrande Sims, passed away, Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Oakmont Nursing Home after a period of declining health. Mrs. Sims was born in Chester, December 22, 1921, a daughter of the late James Lee Ashe and Lena Bell Brown Ashe. After high school graduation, Mrs. Sims received her nursing degree at Wallace Thomson Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Harold P. Hope, Sr. She was one of the first nurses to work at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and she retired after 30 years service. Mrs. Sims was a lifelong member of McCutchen... Mrs. Sims was born in Chester, December 22, 1921, a daughter of the late James Lee Ashe and Lena Bell Brown Ashe. Hope, Sr. She was one of the first nurses to work at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home and she retired after 30 years service. Mrs. Sims was a lifelong member of McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and a former member of the State and National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses. Survivors include a half-sister: Glennie A. Puckett of Lugoff, a step-sister: Opal M. Sanders of Union and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sims was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Jerry McKee and Rev. Trevor Downey. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Sims’ nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Members of the Presbyterian Women of McCutchen church are asked to sit in a group. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be made to McCutchen Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1438 Lockhart Hwy., Union, SC or to a charity of one’s choice. The family will be at their respective homes.
