Daughter of Thomas benjamin "Ben" & Victory Catherine "Calie" Hughes McCullough. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Sam Strain Taken By Death; Rites Set Today Mrs. Janie McCullough Strain, 59, wife of Sam J. Strain, a Limestone Manufacturing Company overseer, died about 11:43 o'clock Thursday night at the family residence on Railroad avenue following an illness of a year and a half. Mrs. Strain a lifelong resident of Cherokee county, was a member of the Salem Presbyterian church. The family has been living in Gaffney 23 years. About two or three months ago Mrs. Strain was complimented by officials of the Southern Railway System for having detected a broken rail in the track near her home and for having the matter reported to railroad officials. She had noted a difference in the sound as a train passed over the track. Rail officials said her keen sense of hearing might have prevented a serious accident. Funeral services for Mrs. Strain will be held at 3 o'clock at the Limestone Presbyterian church after the body lies in state from 2 to 3. The officiating ministers will be the Rev. Hugh C. Hamilton, pastor of the church; the Rev. Charles R. Bailey, of Gaffney; the Rev. C. F. Allen, of Blacksburg; the Rev. W. D. Ratchford, of Glenn Springs; the Rev. Charles Spencer, of Lockhart; the Rev. Joe Belcher, pastor of the Temple Baptist church; and the Rev. L. N. Epley, pastor of the East Gaffney Baptist church. Interment will be in Oakland cemetery with the Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge. The pallbearers will be William Blackwell, Leon Vassy, T. J. Grey, Tom Lipscomb, Bill Jones and Billy Allen. An honorary escort will include J. M. Smith, J. Conrad Jones, T. D. Wilkins, Sr., of Blacksburg, Roy C. Cobb, J. O. Daniel, W. J. Dominick and Roy Coffee, of Anderson, T. E. Burgess, Sr., L. R. Champion, Sam R. Watt of Spartanburg, T. G. Roche, G. G. Watts and Lyman and John M. Hamrick. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Strain is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sherrill Stewart and Mrs. Jack Pettit, of Gaffney; five sons, Herbert, Lindsay O., Hood, Charles and S. B. Strain of Gaffney; her father, T. B. McCullough; six sisters, Mrs. Lillie Mitchell, of Rock Hill, Mrs. Annie Mitchell, of York, Mrs. Ora Vassy, Mrs. C. C. Mullins and Mrs. O. S. Lipscomb, of Gaffney, and Mrs. William Howell, of Kelton; three brothers, B. S. McCullough, of Lyman, and W. J.
