Description	:	Janiece Noel (Wenzel) Calkins, 88 of Mason City, died Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, with Pastor Jim Roth officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to the Mason City VFW Post 733 Auxiliary. Janiece was born August 18, 1927, the daughter of Ray and Marion (Devin) Bigelow in Dodge Center, MN. She was united in marriage to Russell Wenzel on October 15, 1949 in Dodge Center. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1975. She later married Leland "Dude" Calkins on January 2, 1981 at the Rudd United Methodist Church. Janiece graduated from West Concord High School in 1944 at the age of 16 and began working at the Kahler Grand Hotel in Rochester, MN. She continued her education at Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, finishing two years of business school. After marriage she helped Russell on the family farm in Rudd and worked at Hoover's Hatchery. She also did seasonal income tax preparation at H&R Block in Charles City and Mason City. Janiece was a member of Rudd United Methodist Church, Mason City VFW Post 733 Auxiliary, and the West Concord Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, traveling to see family, gardening and fishing. She also liked all kinds of music, playing the piano, trombone, guitar, and attending Bluegrass Fest in Iowa and Minnesota with Dude. Janiece is survived by her husband, Dude Calkins of Mason City; two sons, David Wenzel of Rudd and James Wenzel of Indianapolis, IN; two granddaughters, Jessicca (Jared) Lenehan of Madrid, IA and Brittney (Alex) Mortenson of Dows, IA; three great-grandchildren, Landon Lenehan, Devin Lenehan, and Caroline Mortenson; three nieces, Pat Kolata of Raleigh, NC, Robin Szmansky and Kim Zimmerman both of Florida Keys; three nephews, Arthur Bigelow of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Cary Bigelow of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Dale Bigelow of St. Paul, MN; two sisters-in-law, Opal Bigelow of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Jayne Bigelow of Florida Keys, FL; and two stepsons, Leon Calkins of Tucson, AZ and Chad Reece of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Gary and Douglas; two brothers, Albert and John; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Wenzel. Colonial Chapels
