Description	:	John W. Koop was born in Blackhawk county, Iowa, November 11, 1870. At the age of four years he came with his parents to this community, where they settled on a farm northwest of Jewell; and he lived in this community ever since, for almost sixty years. Mr. Koop became one of the successful farmers of this section, a large landowner, a leader in farm and other business and community activities, and with his wife and family had a large part in the development of his home community. At the age of four years he came with his parents to this community, where they settled on a farm northwest of Jewell; and he lived in this community ever since, for almost sixty years. Mr. Koop became one of the successful farmers of this section, a large landowner, a leader in farm and other business and community activities, and with his wife and family had a large part in the development of his home community. On the 15th day of March, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Barkema, establishing their home northwest of Jewell where they have continued to live. To this union 12 children were born of whom four have preceded him in death. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Koop united upon confession of faith with the German Presbyterian church east of Kamrar. A little over a year ago Mr. Koop sustained injuries in an auto accident from which he never fully recovered. On Tuesday afternoon of last week he had another accident and, although he was not injured, the shock was too much for his heart which was weakened through his suffering from the previous accident, and he passed away at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, March 1st, 1933. He attained the age of 62 years, 3 months, and 20 days. Surviving him are his grief-stricken wife, 8 children, 1 brother, 4 sisters, besides many other relatives and hosts of friends. The surviving children are: Mrs. Harmke Mortenson, of Radcliffe; Mrs. Jennie Thompson, of Webster City; and Mrs. Reka Klaver, Willie, Mrs. Katie Anderson, Mrs. Bertha Sanderson, Hans, and Minnie, all of Jewell. The surviving brother and sisters are, Will Koop, of Jewell; Mrs. S. T. Greenfield, Mrs. Anton Cordes, Mrs. George Smid, and Mrs. A. T. Greenfield, all living in the community. The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock at the German Presbyterian church east of Kamrar where interment was had. The pastor, Rev. Mr. Sinning, officiated. Eight nephews served as pall bearers at the service. Thanks to W.J. Huisman for this obit.
