From the Central City Nonpareil, March 28, 1895, transcribed by Linda Berney: Uncle Jason Parker, one of the pioneer settlers of this county, died of pneumonia at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. E. Marsh, Tuesday morning, after an illness of but a few days. Mr. Parker was 84 years of age, but to many, he would pass for 50. In the early settlement of the county he served a number of years as county commissioner. During the years of overland travel before the completion of the Union Pacific Railway, Parker's Ranch was a great camping place and there are thousands of people today living between Maine and California who have enjoyed his hospitality. A unique figure, he was a man of strong likes and dislikes, rugged, full of energy and endurance. He leaves four children, C.(T. for Truman) F. (Franklin) and Addison Parker, Mrs. W. E. Marsh and Mrs. J. M. Keyes. The funeral was held from the residence of W. E. Marsh yesterday and was largely attended. Mr. Parker was a charter member of the Masonic order of this city and was buried under the auspices of that society. The pall bearers were all old timers, and were James Vieregg, Trim Biggs, James Berryman, James Dunovan, H. C. McCarn and Judge Brewer.
