Read More	PIONEER PROSPECTOR FOUND DEAD Jasper Parrett, one of the pioneer prospectors of Mono County, was found dead on the floor of his cabin near Lundy Friday, September 20th. The body was found by Pearl Mattly and death is supposed to have occurred the previous Wednesday. The cause of death is unknown but it is supposed to have been heart disease, as the old gentleman frequently complained of heart trouble. The deceased was 69 years of age and was born in Ohio. He was reared in Iowa and in had made an enviable reputaton as a fighter during the Civil War, having served from 1861 to 1865 under Capt. Thomas H. Robb, Company D, 19th Iowa Infantry. He first came to Mono County in the summer of 1877, but after a short time returned to Iowa. In the fall of 1879 he returned to Mono County and located a rich claim near Lundy, where he remained up to his death. His claim is one of the richest in the West and had been worked successfully for years single-handed, using the old style arrastre driven by water power to grind the ore. Regularly, every couple of months, bullion shipments were made and no doubt he had amassed a fortune. Several times he had received fabulous offers for his property but he always rejected them. Mr. Parrett was never married and for more than thirty years had lived the life of a hermit without even a dog for a companion. He rarely ever left his claim, except when called for jury work or service on election boards. His funeral took place at Mono Lake last Sunday and was one of the largest ever held in that section, the funeral service being conducted by Mr. H. C. Hulbert.
