Day and Adelia (Peebles) Day, and he was their first child. The 1880 US Census found Jasper living with his parents in Reading, Sioux County, Iowa. He was 8 years old and attending school, and was born in Iowa. His father was a farmer, E R Day (33), and his mother was Adelia Day (28). Both were born in Wisconsin. His baby sister was Eva Day (0), born in Iowa. On the 1885 Iowa State Census he was listed as Jasper W Day (12), still living in Reading with his father Edwin Day (37) and his mother, whose name was misspelled as Adlia (33). Eva Day was now 4, and by then he also had a younger brother, James Day (3). At the time of the 1895 Iowa State Census he was listed as J W Day (22) and was living in Lee County, Iowa, with B R Essex (64) and his wife Martha E Essex (63). Jasper married Ida Brown in Sunnyside in 1897. Their first son, Loren J Day, was born June 25, 1898 and died 2 months later, on Aug. 27, 1898. By the 1900 US Census he had moved to Washington state and was living in North Yakima City, Yakima County, Washington. He was listed as J W Day (28), b. June 1872, and was married to Ida E Day (28), b. Aug. 1872 in Minnesota. They had a baby son, Edwin Day (0), b. Mar 1900 in Washington. Jasper and Ida had a daughter, Lala E Day, born Oct. 30, 1901, but she died just short of her 5th birthday, on Sept. 27, 1906. The 1910 US Census found the small family still living in North Yakima. He was (incorrectly) listed as Joseph W Day (37) along with his wife Ida E Day (37) and their son Edwin J Day (10). Jasper W Day was the elected Sheriff of Yakima County from 1911-1912. His successor was Joseph Metzger. By the 1930 US Census there were no children left at home, and Jasper W Day (57) and Ida E Day (58) were living in Sunnyside in Yakima County. Ida died in 1934. A few years later, in 1938, Jasper Day was again elected Sheriff of Yakima County and served in that capacity for (2) 4-year terms, from 1939-1946. His successor (and predecessor) as Sheriff, Lew Evans, died in office in January 1949, and County Clerk Jasper Day was listed as an honorary pallbearer in Evans' obituary. The 1940 US Census found Jasper W Day (68) widowed and living in Yakima with his son Edwin J Day (40) and his family: Beatrice Ona (Dayman) Day (38), Edwin J Day, Jr. (16), Tommy R Day (15), and Phyllis Ona Day (13). Jasper Day was buried on Apr 9, 1957. His son Edwin John Day, who is not linked below, was born Mar 18, 1900 in North Yakima, Yakima County, and died Oct 20, 1984 in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington.
