OBITUARY In Boston, Aug. 9 - Jay Austin Ward, 76, of Plymouth street, North Carver, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at the Baker Memorial Hospital, Boston, where he had been a surgical patient ten days. Mr. Ward was well known as a cranberry bog owner and for many years manufactured equipment for the cranberry industry. He operated a machine shop adjacent to his North Carver home for over 40 years. He was also known as being one of the best water diviners as well as digger of wells in Plymouth County. Mr. Ward was born in North Carver, Nov. 28, 1883, son of Fred A. and Clara (Perkins) Ward. He was a keen Republican having been a member of the Carver Republican Town Committee for many years. Several times Jay and his wife, Olive (Shaw) Ward, were delegates to the GOP state conventions. Mr. Ward was a member of the North Carver Congregational Church since his youth. Besides his widow, Olive Shaw Ward, Mr. Ward leaves three sons, Austin S. Ward, Dana S. Ward, and David A. Ward; a daughter, Mrs. William H. (Phyllis) Harriman, Jr., all of North Carver. Also six grandchildren, Mrs. Charles (Sandra) Turner of South Carver, and Stephen Ward, Billie Jay and Dana Harriman, Diane Ward and Mark Alden Ward all of North Carver. Also a cousin, Mrs. Harold Swan of Brockton and an uncle former Plympton selectman Minot P. Bradford, 91, of North Carver. Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from the North Carver Congregational Church with the Rev. Norman B. Cawley officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Lakenham Cemetery, North Carver. Visiting hours are from 7-9 tonight at the Eldridge Funeral Home, 59 Pierce street, Middleboro.
