Note due to the difference in information from the newspaper account shown above and what was submitted by edit request the response is below. "He was definitely born in Kansas. His Iowa marriage record shows “Atchison, Kansas”; Shannon is an unincorporated community in Shannon Township in Atchison county. The 1860 census shows him living there, age 7 months, with his parents. In 1865 the family was living in Wayne Twp., Doniphan county, Kansas (census post office: Geary city, which no longer exists); Doniphan is the county north of Atchison county). In 1870 they were in the town of Doniphan (Doniphan county), KS. The 1925 Iowa census simply states “Kansas” as his place of birth. I believe that all the federal censuses taken after his marriage to Jessie also show his place of birth as Kansas."
