Besides a wife and two small sons, he leaves an aged mother, five brothers: E. N. Cooke of Wenatchee; Morand D. Cooke, Edward Cooke, George Cooke, and Rufus Cooke, all of this city; and three sisters: Mrs. Clara Coleman of Orilla; Mrs. Eliza E. Schnebly of Ellensburg and Mrs. Nellie R. Whitson of North Yakima to mourn his death. He was a man that had a host of friends and was honored and respected by all who knew him. The Dawn joins a host of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved. The Ellensburg Dawn, July 23, 1907 OBIT 2: The people of this community were surprised and shocked to learn that Jay Cooke had died Monday night at his home about twelve miles northeast of town. He only took to his bed last Saturday, but he was unable to combat the fearful ailment—gall stones—and passed away as stated. The young man was a native of the valley and few farmers were better known. He was of a genial disposition, industrious and temperate in his habits, and his death is a distinct loss to the community. He leaves a wife and two children. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery tomorrow morning. Ellensburg Capital, July 24, 1907
