Description	:	Jay Chandler, 5th child of Raymond and Mamie Chandler, was born on the family farm in Lucas Co. Through the 8th grade he attended Dillman School. He began High School at Norwood Consolidated until it closed in 1945 and graduated from Chariton High School in 1947. Jay stayed on the family farm and ran a bulldozer for Gene McAninch. Through the 8th grade he attended Dillman School. He began High School at Norwood Consolidated until it closed in 1945 and graduated from Chariton High School in 1947. Jay stayed on the family farm and ran a bulldozer for Gene McAninch. Jay was then called to serve his country in Germany with the 28th Division Signal Corps from 1950 to 1952. After coming home he worked on the farm and operated a bulldozer for several years. On August 20, 1956 Jay married Naomi Cotten and to this union was born Marcia, Greg, Patty and Raymond. In 1960 they bought their first 40 acre farm while working at John Deere. Jay had a great passion for farming and truly enjoyed planning and farming with his three brothers; Albert, Vern and Lem. Jay was close to his cousin and friend Lyle Williams and enjoyed working with him. He ofter recalled details of a trip to California in 1956 with his father. Jay enjoyed wintering in Texas and spending time with friends, playing cards and joking. He had the nickname "Happy Chandler" because he always left everyone smiling. Jay passed away June 20, 2008, he was preceded by his parents; brothers; Roy (Eloise), Albert, Vern, and Lem Chandler; brother-in-laws; Bill Jordan and Fred Conner and his son Raymond. Left with memories are his wife Naomi; children, Marcia (Randy) Heimdal, Greg (Kristi) Chandler, and Patty (Gene) Snyder; 10 grandchildren; Tricia (David) Shuffy, Jason Heimdal, Joel (Nicci) Chandler, Brandon Chandler, Amanda Chandler, Tim Snyder, Curt Snyder, Jeff Snyder, Tia Snyder and Tara Snyder. 5 great granchildren; Kortnie Saffeels, Katelyn Chandler, Leah Chandler, Drew Chandler Dylan Chandler; sisters; Harriette Conner, Vera (Richard) Black, June (Bob) Seuferer, JoAnn (Ron) Parker, Jennie (Bob) Shanks, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorials to the Lucas Community Center or Lucas, Lacona, or Chariton Fire Departments.
