Jay leaves behind an admiring family and a host of friends who were the hallmark of his life. His journey began on May 25, 1915, when he was born to Charles Prentice "CP" and Charlotte Mae (Mickley) Williams in Wilmot. A lifelong resident of the Burden area, Jay attended New Salem and Prairie Home grade schools, graduating from Burden High School in 1933. On Dec. 22, 1940, Jay married his love, Maxine Palmer. They began their life together near Burden where they ran a farm and raised cattle. Jay's life was marked by a zest for living unmatched by most half his age. Always the determined worker, Jay provided for his family through various means that would weave the fabric of a life well-lived and shared by many friends. In addition to being a lifelong farmer, he sheared sheep, roughnecked, and showed champion cattle. He later worked for the ASCS, and for the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier. During his work with the ASCS, he won an award for Conservationist of the Year for his farming methods. His enjoyment of cattle won him various awards and local "fame" for the quality of cattle he and his brother-in-law, Boyd Waite, raised and showed. And he was, to his family, a world-class father and grandfather. Jay's hobbies were many and varied, but he will be long-remembered for his interest and skill in woodworking, and his expertise and enthusiasm as a numismatist. The lives touched in the 93 years Jay shared with us are uncountable, and he will be truly missed. The ease with which he made friends and helped others evidenced his joy, love and interest in people and living life to its fullest. On Jan. 27, 2009, Jay was reunited in joyous eternal life with his wife, Maxine; his son, Bob J. Williams; his sister, Delores Williams Waite; his parents and grandparents. He leaves behind a devoted and loving family that includes a daughter, Diana and her husband, Greg, of Arkansas City; granddaughter, Kasha and her husband, Scott, of Arkansas City; grandson, Kris and his wife, Melody, of Tulsa, Okla.; four precious great-grandchildren, Angela, Michelle, and Chezney, of Tulsa, Okla., and Thatcher Jay, of Arkansas City; as well as numerous other relatives and friends
