Description	:	ARARAT, Va. - Mr. Jay R. Boyd, 82, of 905 Boyd Hollow Road, Ararat, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He passed away quietly while holding the hands of his son and daughter, providing them with strength as he had always done. Mr. Boyd was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Patrick County to the late George Bryant Boyd & Rosa Lee Barnard Boyd. Read More	ARARAT, Va. - Mr. Jay R. Boyd, 82, of 905 Boyd Hollow Road, Ararat, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He passed away quietly while holding the hands of his son and daughter, providing them with strength as he had always done. Mr. Boyd was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Patrick County to the late George Bryant Boyd & Rosa Lee Barnard Boyd. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, was a retired barber and attended Raven Rock Wesleyan Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter & son-in-law, Melody Boyd Harrell & husband, Michael Lee Harrell, of Mount Airy; a son & daughter-in-law, Jay R. Boyd & wife, Sharon C. Boyd, of Jefferson, TX; a special friend, Nancy Roop, of Pulaski; seven grandchildren, Chad Harrell, Brandon Boyd, Lane Harrell, Misty Manuel, Brianne Wilson, Jessica Hayes and Bryant Boyd; six great-grandchildren, Tristan Manuel, Chad Boyd, Gracie Manuel, Brad Boyd, Sadie Hayes and Hayden Harrell; two sisters & brothers-in-law, Iva Mae & Bud Wood of Westfield, NC, and Mary & Jerry Ervin of Garner, NC; five brothers & sisters-in-law, Clarence Boyd of Ararat; Al & Linda Boyd of Midland, TX; H.D. & Ginny Boyd of Ledyard, CT; Robert & Ocie Boyd of Winston Salem, NC; and Arthur & Pauline Boyd of Ararat. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by a daughter, Grace Evelyn Cook; and a brother, George L. Boyd. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Raven Rock Wesleyan Methodist Church in Ararat, with services officiated by the Rev. Roy Large. Burial will follow in Boyd Family Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Feb. 11, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC, where his body will remain until taken to the church.
