At the time of her death her father was in the Veterans Hospital at Des Moines. ========================== Jean Evelyn Amling was born November 23, 1928 at Edgewood, Iowa, being the daughter of Clarence and Cora Elliot Amling of that village. She grew to maidenhood in the place of her birth, receiving her education in the public school and the Congregational church. On July 1st she moved with her parents to Manchester, Iowa, and this fall attended the Manchester Central school and the Community church. Never too strong in body, she faced with courage the fact that she could not indulge in all the activities of her age group. Nevertheless, the young people did enjoy her companionship and considered her one of them. About two weeks ago she came down with the flu and did not seem to be able to throw if off. During the last week other complications set in. On Wednesday she was taken to the hospital but in spite of the care she received, her illness along with a weakened heart condition, proved too much for her strength and her gentle spirit passed to the Heavenly Home on Thursday morning at the age of 15 years and one month. Jean had a very pleasing disposition. Knowing her health was frail she quietly directed her life into those channels which conserved her energy and strength. She listened to her radio, and enjoyed many splendid musical programs. It was her ambition to be able to take up music. She also gave much of her time to reading. She loved books and had read much more than the average child of her age. While she was patient and uncomplaining in her health condition, she cultivated the hope that she would grow stronger and be able to do those things her companions did. She loved the out of doors in the summer time. and took great delight in flowers. Even the lowly dandelion called forth her admiration. Perhaps the reason for her joy in the beauty of nature was her faith in God. She knew the world was His creation, and felt His nearness in the haunting loveliness of the flowers. She loved God and gained such strength as she studied her Bible in the Sunday school. She practiced Christian faith in her association with her young friends. Her ways were of kindness and gentleness. She never regretted any sacrifice she was called upon to make, and she loved her home and parents with great devotion. Because of this she could appreciate the words of Jesus when He said in My Fathers House are many mansions. While she passed from her earthly home which she loved so much, we must understand that she has entered the Heavenly Home which she also loved. She leaves to mourn her departure, her loving parents, both her maternal and paternal grandmothers and many, many companions and friends. Funeral services were held in the Edgewood Congregational church of which she was a member on Saturday afternoon, January 15 at 2 o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. W.B-H. O'Neill. Rev. Watson of the Manchester Community church assisted in the service. The hymns, "Ivory Palaces" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling" were sung by Mr. and Mrs. F.I. Smith with Margaret Kirk at the piano. Burial was in the Edgewood cemetery. Casket attendants for the Jean Amling funeral were Roger Smith, Richard Chapman, Robert Glass, Calvin Gates, Richard Faust and Gerald Perrinjaquet.
