She died from suffocation in a fire at the John Raymond home in Portsmouth Saturday, March 5. Her brief span of life was 11 years, one month and 20 days. Jean was a fifth grade student at St. Mary's school at Portsmouth and was of Catholic faith since birth. She had received the sacraments of Holy Communion a few days before her death. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kleffman, two brothers, Ronald 12, and Neal 3, and one sister, Loretta 6. Also her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kleffman of Council Bluffs and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pursell, Jr. of Portsmouth: great- grandparents Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Bendon of Omaha and Mrs. Frank Pursell of Neola. Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, at Our Lady of Fatima church at Portsmouth with the Rev. N. A. Gaul conducting the Mass of the Angels. A solemn requiem high mass was said by the Rev. N. A. Gaul, the Rev. Jerome Schumaker and the Rev. Anthony Palmer, March 14, at Our Lady of Fatima church. Pallbearers were classmates, Shirley Fuhs, Jean Marie Leinen, Dorothy Stein, Martha Heller, Mildred Leinen and Diane Schechinger. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery at Portsmouth.
