Jean Marie Wadle Nelson, daughter of Harry and Julia (Bauer) Wadle, was born on June 25, 1929, in Melcher-Dallas with a twin brother that was stillborn. Jean Marie Wadle Nelson, daughter of Harry and Julia (Bauer) Wadle, was born on June 25, 1929, in Melcher-Dallas with a twin brother that was stillborn. Growing up with a sister and five brothers, she graduated from high school at Ottumwa Heights Academy for Girls. She worked at Bankers Life before meeting her future husband, Frank Nelson at the Tomar Dance Hall in Des Moines in 1949. On May 31, 1951, Jean and Frank were married in Aurora, Colorado, at St. Paul’s Chapel. The couple made their home at the Air Force base in Colorado. While Frank served in Korea for a year, Jean and their firstborn child, Chris, lived with Jean’s parents during that time. Jean worked at the Herbert’s Drug Store. As a military family, they also lived at the Air Force Bases in California and Georgia. After Frank’s discharge from the Air Force, the family made their home in rural Boone and three more children, Kim, Toni, and Kirk, were born. After 32 years of marriage, Frank passed away at age 55 of pancreatic cancer. Jean remained on the farm until 1999 when she moved into town. Jean enjoyed going to garage sales, solving puzzles, and dancing. She loved to play cards and was a member of three bridge clubs. Jean traveled to every state and especially enjoyed visiting her daughter in Colorado and seeing the Rocky Mountains. She enjoyed spending time with the Wadle and Oldham families. After Frank’s death, Jean enjoyed her time with John Egan, a companion of 25 years before his life ended with cancer. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; companion John Egan; and a sister and five brothers. She is survived by three sons Chris Nelson and wife Diane of Des Moines, and Kim Nelson and wife Linda, and Kirk Nelson and wife, Carol, all of Boone; a daughter Toni Marie Robinson and husband Jeff of Fort Collins, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
